Get to Know Angi Reid

With a corporate background spanning nearly two decades, Angi Reid purchased a family catering business and used it as a springboard to create a banquet and event empire. Out of the blue, she was presented with an opportunity to sell the business and she accepted. The change came fast, though, and she found herself struggling with depression and loneliness. She struggled to determine what should be next, and felt lost after selling that business.

Angi did some real work to discover what her true passions were. She followed her intuition, as well as nudges from The Universe, to earn her Reflexology certification. She went on to educate herself on the many aspects of essential oils and used that knowledge to open FLŌ (Feet Love Oils), with four locations in the southeast United States. Angi Reid is a columnist, author and international speaker as well. Her mission is to help people positively influence their emotional, physical and financial health.

You have followed Angi along her business-building and business-selling journeys. Now it’s time to discover how she did it.

How I Started My Business—The Business of My Dreams

Grab a pencil and paper. You’re going to create a Universe To-Do List. This is a popular type of to-do list that you may have heard of, but it’s important to complete it often.

At the top of the paper, on the left side, write the word “Me.” On the top right side, write “God, Universe, Source”…or whatever you call your higher power. Draw a vertical line down the center of that paper.

On the left side, I want you to write your action steps. I wrote Go to School, Teach Classes, Create a Workshop, Call Someone, Make an Appointment, etc. On The Universe’s side, think as big as possible, because The Universe has no limit. I wrote Global Business, Touching Many Lives, Create a Brand Around FLO, etc.

Trust in those nudges. Let The Universe do its thing. After you write your list, take that paper and tear it down the middle. Burn The Universe’s side. Let The Universe have it. Do not take it back. Let The Universe know that you’re turning those requests over. Let those requests go and let The Universe do its job.

A problem is not really a problem if it can be solved with action. The things I had been labeling as problems weren’t really problems. Because it only took a few action steps to solve them.

I want to let you know about something that a friend shared with me, and that I in turn shared with someone else. I was told that I was being selfish for not sharing my gifts. If you have gifts you’re not sharing, don’t be selfish. Don’t keep them for just you or a close-knit group of people. I had been dimming my light to make everyone around me feel comfortable. Once I started letting that light shine, my comfort level changed and now I’m saying yes to more things. The fact that I said yes to that personal development workshop, said yes to Ecuador, yes to Brand Builders, yes to doing Who’s in the FLO Interviews, yes to writing that book…has all gotten me to the point where I’m on Brand Builders TV and connecting with you, talking about saying yes and trusting those nudges.

Be present. One of my favorite quotes that’s in my book is, “If I have one foot in yesterday and one foot in tomorrow, I’m pissing all over the day I’m guaranteed.” I try not to live in yesterday and complain about what has happened because I can’t un-ring that bell. I really strive to stay out of tomorrow because I’m not guaranteed that moment. What I’m guaranteed is right now, right here with you.

I built my business by offering “fries with that order.” If you have “fries” to offer with your order, offer the “fries.” The challenges I’ve overcome are depression, loneliness, feeling unworthy, low self-confidence, self-doubt…but I learned that we’re never given a desire without being given the tools to make that desire come true.

Prayer really helped with my depression. It helped with my loneliness. Reframing my thoughts also helped. When I thought Woe is me, I’m not a mom. All these other women are moms, they have kids, it’s Mother’s Day…I realized that when I sold my business I didn’t stop throwing parties. I was throwing the biggest pity party in the world for myself. It was a private party, just for me. I stayed there for a while, until I took the action step to go to school. Reframing my thoughts really helped me to shut down the pity party. Doing the workshops and saying yes to things, listening to nudges and knowing my desires were sent just for me made me feel very special and like my gift was worthy of being shared with other people.

Angi Reid: “I Started My Business with a Nudge Planted by God and The Universe”

If you want to see what The Universe has in store for you, like Angi did, get to work on that Universe To-Do List and take action on those things you can do today. As for the rest (the items on The Universe’s side), place your intentions and give up control of those items. Follow your gut, listen to your intuition, pay attention to nudges…and watch as your passion takes shape.

Help! I’ve Started My Business! What Do I Do Now? Part 2 with Angi Reid

Help I've Started My Business - Angi Reid - Part 2

If you have just started a business, if you’re thinking about starting a business, thinking of selling your business, or you’ve already sold your business, you’ve come to the right place. A business can be all-consuming. It can become part of the way you eat, sleep and breathe. It can become part of your family, or start to feel like one of your children. Those are just some of the things Angi Reid felt as she grew and ultimately sold her catering and event venue.

If you haven’t already read Part 1 of this three-part series, you’ll want to start there: Help! I’ve Started My Business! What Do I Do Now? Part 1 with Angi Reid. Then you’ll have the background you need to move through Angi’s journey with her.

This article, along with the other two in the series, has been developed using Angi’s own words from the Brand Builders TV episode Help! I’ve Started my Business! What Do I Do Now? with Angi Reid. You may wish to watch the entire episode below, or scroll down a bit to read about how Angi moved on after selling her business—which was a big part of her life.

A Bit About Angi Reid

With nearly 20 years’ experience in corporate administration, sales and purchasing, Angi Reid bought a catering business and transformed it into a full-service event and banquet venue. After she received an unexpected offer from someone who wanted to buy the business, she sold it…only to find herself feeling alone, depressed and without a plan for what would come next.

Inspired by a compliment from her own Reflexologist years prior, she listened to her intuition and became certified in Reflexology. To that she added a desire to learn more about essential oils, and voila! FLŌ (Feet Love Oils) was born. Today, Angi is a published columnist, author, Reflexologist, essential oils educator, international speaker, owner of four business locations…all part of helping others to enhance their physical, emotional and financial health.

You’ve read about Angi’s first business. Now let’s hear about what happened when she sold it, in her own words.

I Started My Business…Then I Sold My Business

In 2003, a friend of a friend of a friend came to my door and asked if I would be willing to sell my business. I thought and prayed about it. I recognized that everything is for sale, for the right price, except for my soul. I upped the value of the business. I went back to her and told her what I wanted for the company, considering that I had events planned for the next year-and-a-half. The next day she said, “Yes!”

I had no idea what I was going to do. In 60 days’ time, we signed the papers and I was gone. I thought the new owners might call me to use my expertise and some of my successes and information I’d gathered along the way. But, no, they didn’t need me anymore.

The boys I had been signing paychecks for…they were my family. I loved them dearly and we worked together day and night. There were a lot of nights I didn’t get out of there until three or four in the morning. It was a hard job, but it was very lucrative.

So I closed on the business. I was able to pay off my home and make some investments. I had never gotten one check that large in my life. It was very unexpected. That was 17 years ago, and I had no idea what was ahead of me.

There was depression. I questioned my direction—I had no earthly idea what I was going to do. I felt lonely. I felt like I had lost my identity, because up until that point, I was known as Angi from Inviting Events. Inviting Events was my last name. Now I had to restructure myself as Angi Reid, doing whatever I was going to do.

Then I remembered that I had gone to cosmetology school. I could do hair or…then I thought about the reflexology practitioner telling me that I have a gift. I remembered that nudge, which was way before I started any personal development. I was telling my British mother-in-law about my choices: style hair or go to reflexology school. She said, “Oh, Ang. You don’t want to stand on your feet all day. It’s bloody horrible on your legs.”

So she’s saying, “Don’t stand on your feet.” The other guy is saying, “Go work on feet.” And there just happened to be a reflexology school 45 minutes from my home. I started school within six months and became a certified reflexologist just to help my family and friends.

I never dreamed that following the nudge and taking that step would help me to move forward and keep going with those other nudges. It’s been an amazing ride. I started working on my family and friends. One thing led to another. I got a nudge to work in North Georgia at a wellness spa. I got another nudge to work at a day spa, not too far away. I had my home office as well.

In 2015, after I had established those three locations, a friend of mine had double knee replacement surgery. I invited her to stay at my home to recuperate. I knew I would need something for pain and something for scars. By divine intervention, this nudge came to me in a neighborhood newspaper. The headline read, Natural Versus Synthetic. It was about essential oils. I called the author and spoke with her about the essential oils. I told her, “I don’t want to sell these, I don’t want to teach about them…I just want them for my clients. That’s it.”

About two months later, I taught my first essential oils class. About ten months after that, I went to my first personal development workshop…at the age of 55. I hadn’t put together the fact that these nudges had been coming my way all this time. But thank God and The Universe that my inner being was following them. Because they’ve created the path I’m on now.

Now I recognize that I’m aligned and focusing with my inner being. I’m trusting those nudges, and when they happen, I act.

Have you ever gotten a nudge that you trusted and noticed that your path was starting to flow? Or have you ever gotten those nudges and didn’t follow them, and then thought I should have trusted that instinct? Those are the nudges we get that I’m so grateful I had and followed…to get me to the point where I am now. That personal development course changed my life. From that course, I got invited and approved and accepted to become part of a global docuseries called Awakening Giants. That’s where I met Sammy, the founder of Brand Builders Club and Brand Builders TV.

I had no idea where that was going to take me, but I followed the nudge and I said, “Yes!”

One of the things I’ve been doing for the past few years is digesting the information and saying yes to the things I know are aligned with my path and where I need to go.

I said yes to going to Ecuador, I met Sammy, I became part of the Brand Builders Club, and then Sammy and I sat down and started talking about my business. The essential oils business was great for me, but the “fries” were in reflexology. I could offer the foot work with oils, and I had “fries.”

And so I received this amazing download while I was in the shower (that’s where I get my downloads, or ideas). It said, “Your brand name is FLŌ, and it stands for Feet Love Oils.” The light bulb was lit. It brings tears to my eyes when I think about it now because it has created an entire brand for me. I now do Who’s in the FLO? videos and interviews. I trademarked that name and built my entire brand around it.

Last November, while I was journaling, I got a nudge that said I would start writing a book that same day. It would be a book of 365 daily tips, including inspiration, self-discovery and growth. It would be called The Daily FLO. That book has been written and transcribed. It’s on hold right now because I have another book coming out.

Trust those nudges.

Angi Says, “I Started My Business…Again”

Angi Reid is a perfect example of how you can follow your intuition—your gut—and land exactly where you’re meant to be. Every step of the journey can feel like a final destination…until it doesn’t anymore. That means The Universe is asking you to expand your expectations and to go where your heart leads you.

Speaking of The Universe, you’re going to learn how Angi allowed (and still allows) The Universe to guide her through her life’s journey. She would not have landed in a business that gives her purpose, that fulfils her passion and that helps people around the world without it.

In the final instalment of this three-part series, Help! I’ve Started My Business! What Do I Do Now? Part 3 with Angi Reid,  Angi is going to teach you how to create a Universe To-Do List, so you can do your part whilst letting your higher power take care of the rest. It’s simple, but oh-so important to moving forward with purpose.

It’s time to learn it, model it and get shit done! Let’s go!

Meet Angi Reid

With nearly two decades’ experience in corporate purchasing, sales and administration, Angi Reid purchased a catering business and turned it into a full-service banquet and event venue. Following an unexpected offer to sell that business, Angi did just that…and found herself lonely, depressed and lacking direction.

Angi followed her gut and explored the world of Reflexology, added a passion for essential oils, and ultimately combined the two to create FLŌ (Feet Love Oils). She is now a published author and columnist, essential oils educator, Reflexologist, international speaker, owner of four business locations…all with the goal of helping others to improve their physical, emotional and financial health.

So without further ado, let’s hear more about Angi’s journey, in her own words.

How I Started my Business, with Angi Reid

I am Angi Reid and I’m coming to you from FLŌ Studios just outside Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I really didn’t start my first business. I was in the corporate world and I had a car accident. While I was recuperating from the accident, I was hanging out at a banquet facility that my mom had started. She was cooking for church groups, football banquets, parties…those sorts of things in the 1990s.

I started getting these nudges that the business could be a lot bigger than her vision. So about two or three months after helping her out and marinating in my thoughts, I decided I wanted to buy the business from her. I made her an offer and she accepted. In 1993, I purchased Inviting Events. I knew nothing about catering. I knew nothing about banquets. But I did have some business sense, and I could see that they weren’t offering “fries with that order.”

You know when you go to a fast-food restaurant and they ask if you want fries with that order? They are upselling. They want to make sure they sell everything they can provide for that customer.

Rather than just doing parties and events, I started offering flowers for weddings. I started offering DJ services, tuxedo rentals and invitations. I offered lots of “fries” for their orders. At one point, I even rented out my own wedding gown to a few different people. I provided everything but the ring.

I realized this was instant gratification for me and I absolutely loved it.

Fast forward a bit. I started seeing a reflexologist in 1995-1996 for my back issues that resulted from the car accident. The first day I went in, he said, “You have a gift. You need to be doing reflexology.”

I thought, What are you talking about? I have a banquet facility. It’s a very lucrative business. I love what I’m doing…

but that nudge stayed in the back of my brain.

In 1998, I had some health issues. My doctor, who was ahead of her time, suggested I use essential oils. In three days, my chronic sinusitis was gone. The candida that was in my system was gone. I didn’t realize it at the time, but this was another nudge that was being planted by God and The Universe—a nudge that I would use later on.

I Started My Business, I Love My Business…Now What?

If you can identify with any of the feelings that Angi Reid went through with building her business, you’re going to want to continue on to Help! I’ve Started My Business! What Do I Do Now? Part 2 with Angi Reid. There, you will discover how Angi sold her business and then learned to move forward through loneliness, depression, and a lack of direction and purpose. Her journey is a story of loss, of wandering, of searching…and ultimately, of triumph.

After you’ve read Part 2, you’ll then want to move onto the final instalment in this series: Help! I’ve Started My Business! What Do I Do Now? Part 3 with Angi Reid.
